The Future in Bloom

January 2015

Read how Bloom in the Park 2014 incorporated a compostable packaging initiative with great success.

With Down2Earth Materials being chosen as the preferred partners for the supply of compostable packaging, we were delighted to be part of a team of organisations that devised and carried out the environmental scheme.

The attempts to make the initiative’s educational purpose clear to both vendors and event-goers was very successful and helped to establish the huge benefits of using certified compostable packaging for large-scale events such as Bloom in the Park.

It resulted in 2.6 Tonnes of carbon saved and plans are to improve this stat even further for Bloom 2015

Teach A Man To Fish

August 2014

Read how Gills Traditional Fish & Chips, Cobh, have implemented their own composting machine and are saving 45% a month on their recycling bill.

In 2013 Keith Sparrow, owner of Gills Tradidional Fish & Chip installed his own on-site composting machine. The composting machine, which was funded by Cobh Tidy Towns, has been implemented into the day-to-day operations of their business and proving highly beneficial in terms of savings.

Keith composts the Down2Earth packaging along with vegetable peelings, batter waste from all hot food preparation as well as shredded cardboard and sawdust among other things. He has cleverly initiated a scheme where customers can return their compostable food packaging once the food has been consumed.
