As of the 3rd of July 2021, there were a whole host of single-use plastic products that were banned due to the introduction of the Single-Use Plastic directive that was implemented by the EU. The directive was introduced to reduce the amount of plastic waste that pollutes the environment. This meant that an array of popular products was to be discontinued, such as CPLA cutlery & straws, plastic stirrers and polystyrene products.
Luckily, we have a range of sustainable alternatives to offer you to help get your 2022 off to a greener start!
Our Green and White striped Paper straws are perfect for sustainable slurping of iced coffees and smoothies. They are 195mm in length and 6mm in diameter and are certified compostable. The best thing about them is the smooth mouthfeel and sturdiness, they don’t get soggy like your traditional paper straws! These straws are the ideal alternative to plastic straws and can be disposed of in your brown food bin ♻
If paper straws just won’t do it for you, we have the ideal solution! The straw-free Sippy Lid removes the need for any straw and is fully compostable. The lids are 96mm in diameter, so fits all standard cold cups that we supply here in Down2Earth Materials. These straw-less lids are perfect for eco entertaining and have you thinking “sip me baby one more time” 🎶🕺
The ban of CPLA cutlery means that wooden cutlery is now the sustainable way forward. Wooden cutlery sometimes gets a bad rep, which is why we have worked tirelessly to source the best on the market. Our new stylish and sturdy wooden cutlery is fully compostable and strong enough to dig into crunchy meals, hot or cold 🍴🍃 the cutlery has a gentle mouthfeel and is excellent for takeaway meals and catering events for sustainable eating.
The new EU directive also saw the use of polystyrene for takeaway food packaging come to an end. We have a full range of sustainable alternatives made from Bagasse – a stylish alternative to polystyrene made from reclaimed sugarcane 🌿, which allows food to breathe and not go soggy. The containers are easy to close and are freezer and microwave safe. Our Bagasse range is perfect for generous portions of fish and chips or hot street food, and fully compostable of course!
Our food cartons come in a range of sizes to cater for all your takeaway needs. Many similar-looking hot food cartons have a natural kraft finish, though in fact have a plastic lining and therefore are not compostable. We offer the full eco version – sustainably sourced paper board with a water-based coating, made up with leak-proof webbed corners and fold-in flaps to give a secure closure ♻ These containers are extremely versatile, and they can be used for pretty much all of your takeaway needs. For example, the no.1 food carton is the perfect size for side dishes such as rice and noodles, small pies or even chocolate brownies. The no.8 food carton is great for stews, pasta, and curries. The options are endless
