Everyone at Down2Earth Materials would like to wish all UCC staff and students our warmest congratulations for coming second in the world in the Universitas Indonesia Greenmatic World University Ranking, as well as placing second in the ‘Urban’ campus setting category.
And you may be wondering what this means exactly…
Quite simply it means that University College Cork, not only leads the way in Ireland when it comes to making efforts towards a greener campus and an environmentally-friendly uiniversity, but it is leading universities around the world. Out of 360 Universities, Cork’s outstanding university is proving its excellence in implementing a greener, cleaner ethos into the day-to-day operations of the university.
UCC’s Director of Buildings and Estates said about the college’s efforts:
UCC has been continuously recognised for it’s work in the area of campus sustainability over the last number of years, having been shortlisted last December in the final of the European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE), of which it was the only Irish representative.
UCC’s commitment to environmental education to both its staff and it’s students is truly impressive. In 2010 it became the first university campus in the world to receive Green Flag Status, awarded by An Taisce and the Foundatdion for Environmental Education.
At Down2Earth Materials we are extremely proud to have a strong ties with UCC’s Green Team, and we know from personal experience that they are a team that not only devise green ideas, but actually take action and follow through on them!! One such example is their annual, custom printed compostable hotcup used to mark and inform about Freshers’ Week. On the outside, it may just seem like a cool, colourful coffee cup, but it is so much more, as it also begin it’s demonstration to its young students of the green ethos that is proving so successful for the university.
From everyone at Down2Earth Materials, we send our congratulations to everyone at University College Cork, an entity we truly respect and admire.
Bye for now,
