The impact of our daily lives is not always visible. An oil-based plastic fork has been 180,000,000 years in the making, and will spend hundreds more in a landfill site. By contrast, the raw materials for our cutlery are grown in a season and biodegrade in 180 days.

Our humble beginnings began back in the early 1980s with then “Southern Tapes & Packaging” a family company which prides itself on its values of Service, Quality, Innovation and Trust – they are the principles on which our business was founded.

We believed then and now that sustainable packaging could be the rule rather than the exception. So in 2009 “Down 2 Earth Materials” was initiated by Tony Lee and Peter Synnott to realise this goal.

Down 2 Earth’s success lies in its absolute commitment to developing a fully compostable product range compliant with ASTM 6400 and EN13432 standards, and its desire to make environmentally sustainable packaging practical and economic.

Our recent venture with Vegware now a global leader in the production and development of sustainable packaging compliments this vision. Down 2 Earth partners with its clients to ensure that they are market leaders in this area. This involves the supply of packaging, and can be extended to provide information and advice on mixed food and packaging waste collections.

It is widely accepted that landfill does not offer a viable long-term solution to dealing with waste. Compostable catering disposables and food packaging using sustainable materials goes a long way to addressing these issues. Unlike plastic packaging, used Down 2 Earth compostable packaging is not waste, but a resource!

D2e are currently seeking partners with sustainable ideas that can be introduced at community level to promote a green ethos. We hope to sponsor these projects and work closely with these groups to develop a sustainable “Ireland”. We welcome all ideas in this field and look forward to meeting with you in the near future.
